XPS 13 - Disable Keyboard Backlight

How do I disable (and keep disabled) the backlight on my XPS 13? I can use fn+f6 to turn it off, but it ends up turning itself back on when re-logging in or coming back from hibernating, etc.

Running Windows 8.

Hi dtbarne,

I would suggest you to update the BIOS and quickset driver on the system. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the BIOS and BIOS section and Dell Quickset application from Application section onto the system and install it.

I verified that I'm already running the latest versions of BIOS and Quickset. The first thing I did when I got the laptop 2 weeks ago was update everything.

Hi dtbarne,

I’d advise that you load defaults in the BIOS. Please follow the steps mentioned below to load the BIOS to defaults.

  1. Reboot the computer.
  2. When prompted during POST, press the key to enter the setup screen.
  3. On the System Setup screen, press the key.
  4. Press the key on Yes to Load Optimized Defaults and restart the computer.

Also, Please reinstall the Dell quickset application again on the system for issue resolution.

Please let me know if this helps.
