XPS 14Z Keyboard strange behaviour
I recently updated Java and allowed a download manager to help me to do that, thinking that if Java had suggested it's use, then it would be safe to use. Unfortunately a couple of other programs installed themselves at the same time and became a real pain as they were trying to suggest that I use them regularly. Anyway, I uninstalled them and carried on. It was only after that, I could not get the correct keystrokes to enter when I was using Google Chrome, or Firefox. I do most of my internet browsing using the AOL / IE interface without any problems. Microsoft Excel and Word also have no issues, and now I have to enter my usernames and passwords into word, copy and paste them into the Chrome / Firefox interface before I can use them.
What happens in these two interfaces is that the keystrokes follow a certain sequence of characters, beginning at the top of the keypad, working it's way right, then down i.e.
`1234567890-=
qwertyuiop[]
asdfghjkl;'#
\zxcvbnm,./
no matter which key is pressed, even pressing the same key all the time. I have tried plugging in a USB keyboard and it works exactly the same, so it is not a keyboard / hardware problem.
Anyone experienced that before, or can suggest a fix?
I have re-installed Chrome without any improvement, I have searched for malware and viruses, but nothing found, and I have rolled back to before I did the Java update, all without success.
