I had the same issue - no signal to my external monitor when hdmi was plugged in. I finally went in to "device manager" (click windows key, type "device manager" then open device manager. I believe I went to "display adapters" and clicked on the nvidia one, right-clicked and selected "properties" and found that nvidia was disabled (I guess intel took precedence?); enabled nvidia (I think it was under the 'general' tab), and immediately my external monitor came to life! Hope this helps some other people.

Click Here to get some information on how to hook up HDTV with HDMI cable.
Below, jimco has put together a good troubleshooting list for HDMI issues.
Thank you for putting this list together.

i've noticed that in both the nvidia controls and windows controls, it recognizing my plasma, but no picture on the tv. seems as though this is a common issue, yet, i haven't found a solution.

i have installed the latest drivers, have attempted multiple hdmi cables and ports in the tv, booted, rebooted countless times. I've also tried adjusting the primary display (which btw is FN+F3 on this machine).
I have an HDMI:DVI cable which always works for my monitor. just can't get the tv to accept the signal.

I have the same problem too. But i think the problem is the lcd laptop works with the intel graphic card and the hdmi with nvidia, I think both should work with the nvidia card, as the intel graphic card does not have the option for multiple displays. its funny because my wife has the inspiron 15 and the hdmi port works perfectly, it worked straight away. Please, help us.

I am having HDMI issues with my XPS17 3D (L702x) It works with my oldest TV a TEVION 32" but completely refuses to work on my HANSPREE xV 37" or my LG 22" (M228WD). It completely refuses to detect the other TV's never mind suspect audio. Not impressed :emotion-12:

Same issue here....2 laptops, both Inspiron with Intel HD graphics 3000.
system1 has an i3 processor-->no issues using HDMI to Philips LCD tv.
system2 has an i5 processor-->HDMI to Philips LCD does not work, no signal detected. This system was sent back for repair to Dell, but
returned unchanged..they tested functionality to a HDMI monitor, which worked. So after 'repair' of course the system still didn't work using HDMI to a Philips LCD. I believe it works fine on a HDMI monitor, but just the combination to a Philips LCD gives problems. Also I tested it on another (Philips) LCD, same result. After seaching the internet on HDMI and Intel Graphics 3000 I believe the videocard or driver is an issue.
The fact that the i3 system works fine makes my think the problem on the other system should be solveable....but how.
bye Hans

Hi, i had the same problem when i newly loaded windows 7 on my dell xps 15z. i read all the forum and i found this one working for me. I found the service tag of my machine and i found the nvidia graphics driver from dell for my machine as well the exact graphics driver from nvidia website for my graphics card and installed both. I uninstalled the intel graphics driver since running both nvidia and intel driver hide the HDMI output option on the playback device. Once i uninstalled the intel graphics driver , i was able to see the HDMI output option on playback device and i made it default and so the HDMI started picking sound on my TV. You may have to reconnect again to make sure everything works fine.
Thanks. Hope this helps.

Same problem here, BUT, it is now FIXED as of the latest update.
Download the latest windows updates as well as the latest dell BIOS updates.
Fixes many of the screen resolution problems we have been having.
Fixes the dual monitor NOT displaying on your HDTV via an HDMI cable.
Suggestion: Make sure to buy a QUALITY HDMI cable with the latest compatibility for todays high speed audio and video needs. I bought two different kinds and both are more than capable and compatible with todays higher speed/high quality audio/video tech.
