XPS 15 L502X overheating?
One year old laptop, seems to overheat even when on a vented riser, note hotter than norm at the touch pad area top and bottom.
Normal use, no gaming.
Any suggestions?

Hi nhptown,
You have mentioned that the issue happens with vent riser so does it happen only when it’s connected to a vent riser?
The intake of the laptop is at the bottom where the vent riser is connected, it allows the air to intake into the system which cools the laptop. So make sure that it is not tightly connected.
Also I suggest that you clean the air vents using a can of compressed air and update the BIOS from the following link:

Thank you for your response. The Bios and drivers were updated by dell tech. I have cleaned the vents. The riser I use is ergonomic, I had not used the built in fans, did try them and they did not make a difference to the area at touchpad. The fans of the riser are to the back, so that may not help with the problem at the front of the laptop. I am now using the laptop with simple risers at the four corners allowing better airflow. I will see if that helps. It seems to be the front portion of the laptop that seems to really overheat usually after 2 hours of use, doing basic word processing and internet searches, email, etc. The back part gets hot but not as much. I ran PC diagnostics, stress tests and they said everything running okay.

Hi nhptown,
Thank you so much for all the information. Also let me know if the issue happens without venter riser.
Let me know if the issue is still happening with simple risers.

Still happening with and without vent risers, a little better with than without. I think I will have a Dell service rep come out.
I will have to pay for them to come, but do not want to mail to Dell.
Thank you so much for following up.
It does not seem that there is a solution other than to have a technician. I just may have a bad part or two.
