XPS 1530 - How shutoff mouse touchpad and is Fingerprint reader any good? Dell Laptop

XPS 1530 - How shutoff mouse touchpad and is Fingerprint reader any good? Dell Laptop

Shut off Tough Pad Mouse?

Got laptop in June 08 and I may be hitting the touchpad with my wrist when I am typing. It really messes up my emails in in Yahoo mail. For some reason the cursor may jump while I am typing. Perhaps since I am a poor typist I am hitting something else instead like the Tab, Windows logo, Alt key or other keys on laptop.

Is there a quick way to shut off the touchpad as I use an external wireless (not bluetooth) mouse anyway?

Finger Print Reader:

Not sure if I should set this up or not. The service that is currently running is upeksvr.exe. However the question is if I register my fingerprint and set up other websites to key in password automatically, I DO NOT want more overhead in terms of new services running.

Anyone know if any other services run in background besides the upeksvr.exe??

Thanks so much

Peter

Notes on laptop:

-Nice laptop

-Hate Vista like a lot of people.

-Horrible speakers-think back to 1960 transistor radio.

-LCD screen faulty upon arrival but these things happen-was replaced in 2 days.

Webcam horrible unless you are in bright lit room and record and 320x220 (640x480 or above introduces lag that is unacceptable).

I cant hep you with the touchpad ... but as far as the fingerprint reader goes it works pretty good i use it all the time and no it doesnt seem to take alot of resources to have running ... the only thing i found was that it took a few tries to get it to read mine ... but once i figured out that i needed to make sure my fingertip needed to actually rub across the glass it works just abou evrytime

mine does the same thing on my touchpad.  I think you can adjust the sensitivity of the pad and it may help..  I just curse and have to retype.

My fingerprint reader works flawlessly.  I just use it to sign in computer tho.  Havent tried other programs,  I use form fill. windows live version.  Keeps all my logins and passwords.

Have no tray icon but I did re-enable the Apoint program in MSCONFIG and then had my Touchpad tab back in Mouse properties. However you can only disable double click. Any speed settings or sensitivity will ALSO affect you external mouse. I may uninstall the mouse driver if I am too much of a doofus and keep kitting the mouse pad or some other key when I am typing. Thanks Peter

Touch Pad

In your tray you should have a mouse pad icon;

Right click on it and select touch pad properties.

Click on device select. You can enable or unable it or enable the button - or you can select to automatcally disable it if it detects a mouse.

Hope this helps

Have you tried disabling the touchpad in Device Manager?

Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices > Synaptics PS/2 Port Pointing Device?

No way to disable touchpad like you can other devices. Does not allow it.

But thanks
