Hi there,

So it seems like I found the solution, I have done a lot of things, and a combination of them worked.
- I updated the USB driver (Google Android driver)

- I switched my phone to another connectivity mode (I have Sony Xperia Z1 compact and Z3, so now it works for both) - to Mass Storage Mode (it was MTP before). THIS IS OBLIGATORY, without this step all the rest does not make any sense, I checked that :)

- I also changed the power management of all the usb controllers to not "allow the computer to turn off this device" (in the properties of the usb controllers). This should be done via Device Manager.

- I updated the chipset driver to the newest version released this October.

Hope, it will be helpful.
Olya

Thank you for the follow up and reply.

I tried your suggestions and it didn't work :(

I am not sure that it is a Windows thing since I installed Linux and other OS and non worked. I think its a BIOS issue myself.

I just received my new laptop replacement yesterday and it has the same problem. This was the third or forth replacement.

I bought so many cables, I probably spent $50-$60 trying new cables, powered hubs and other equipment, non worked. that only thing that works somewhat is a 15cm long USB cable.

Hi, it seems like my laptop is not stable as well. It was ok yesterday but today in the morning I checked it again and I had the same problem again. I hope, it is not a hardware issue though :(

Hi

Seems I am one of many waiting for a fix for this. I have an XPS15 i7 2.3GHz and it suffers the same problem. My new Sony Xperia Z3 compact will not successfully link via USB.

Simply keeps toggling connect and disconnect.

The USB mode on the phone does not help nor does installing the Sony Companion program which recognises the phone then repeatedly connects and disconnects too.

It makes no difference in what order things are done, so anybody got any further feedback on this one as it is a real pain having to use Bluetooth.

Regards

I feel your frustration. I went thought the same pain. I received many replacements by dell, all had the same issue, however, the last replacement was the most stable as I can tell, but I still get connection/disconnection with all USB cables except for this one I bought from amazon:

[View:www.amazon.com/.../ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top:550:0]

Its a very good quality and it is 100% compatible with the system (i.e. no connection/disconnection issue)

Well a big thanks for that "iamcanadian4good"  I would not have believed it but I was desperate to try anything. I have 3 USB cables that will fit and  just one of them works. NB it is the Sony provided cable, that always fails. The second one I tried fails a lot less and the one good one is totally reliable, not sure where it came from. I have ordered a couple of the cables you recommended.

The cable when plugged into my desktop Win 8.1 m/c at work functions with all three cables so it is the Dell XPS that seems to be fussy and by the way is equally fussy on all 4  of the USB ports.

Seems a bit tacky that neither the Dell or the Sony mobile recognise what is going on, just keep wingeing at each other.

Thanks again and I hope by this response I will encourage any other skeptics to give it a try.

I am sure the new USB from amazon will work with your XPS; I tried it with mine and 2 other XPS 9530. Its a shame that all the other USB cables that work everywhere else doesn't work for this machine.

You wouldn't believe the number of hours/days/months I spent investigating the issue. It was extremely frustrating.

Let me know how it works out once you get the cables :)

Hi my "Maple" friend, I received the cables you recommended from Amazon and neither worked, both just connect /disconnect repeatedly. I still have one shorter cable that works but the FRiEQ do not work, may be if there was a shorter version. I also bought another which was supposed to be ideal for the Xperia Z3 but that too just hiccups continuously. No bad feelings but I think you have got a better XPS 9530 that is now somewhat less fussy. At least I still have one cable that works but its identity is unknown so I can not get another identical.

All the best Del (short for Derek here in the UK)

Derek, I am very sorry to hear it didn't work with you. This leads me to believe that there may be an issue with the laptop. The one from Amazon worked for me and for my friend as well.

Now, I feel bad that I got you to buy something that didn't work for you :(

Can anyone experiencing USB problems on the XPS please try the following.  Disconnect the USB  device and disable the NVidia graphics controller in device manager and then try to connect the USB device again.  Let me know if it works.  Its only a work around and not a fix.

Hi, I have commented before about my problems with my Xperia Z3 Compact showing the same symptoms. I had generally given up and used my PC at work for any direct phone work via USB.

However when I had the same problem with my Garmin sat nav I tried putting in my usb network adaptor, that device has a USB socket as well as the ethernet. If the Garmin is plugged into that usb on the ethernet adaptor then it works fine. If I get a chance I will try your idea, but I now have my own work around.Good luck. PS it's about time DELL sorted this out.

Hello Richard,

I did work for me.

disable nvdia and connecting my apple iPad.

It's a work around I can live with.

Thanks Wim.
