EIDE drives are fading fast from the market - there are a couple of 200G 7200 rpm drives, but they're not that common.

The system has no RAID support, and the BIOS will limit you to a 120G drive - you CAN use a larger drive, subject to the reality that without BIOS support, you would face trouble if you ever had to use a data recovery utility.

Thank you for the reply - it's much appreciated!

I've bought a drive - it's compatable albeit too large for the BIOS. But not from Dell. Their website was prooving too much of a headache to find anything that would show as being compatable with my system.

And any data recovery I have is "Save to disk, save to external storage." I don't work on anything that remotely needs backing up and if it is important it goes onto CD.

Again thank you for your quick reply.

What model XPS do you have? The options for the 1530 include a 250 gig 5400rpm drive and a 200gig 7200 drive.

I would like to upgrade my Gen2 as well, I would like to discuss other upgrades you have made. My system has a GeForce Go6800 Ultra 256mb card and 2GB of ram. I'm think upgrading will help with my CAD applications. In addition, the hard drive is very small, like you stated, any solutions so far?

Thanks, Matt

I haven't made any upgrades at all apart from the storage and memory. The rig itself is very good. The graphics card is still one of the better ones on the market (I wouldn't recomment any of the 7 series). And it still runs many of my games far better than most.

For a computer that's nearing it's third year it's done well to get this far with only this as it's first upgrade.

So it's now at 2 gig of memory and 160 gig storage.

I have had my XPS Gen 2 for 3+ years now and my monitor all of a sudden recently has these different colored lines across the screen. Days later, the right side just started fuzzing up displaying all sorts of crazy stuff. My warranty has expired...anyone know how much it will cost to replace it or any recommendations? Any response will be helpful...thank you!
