XPS M1210 - Computer won't boot
Hey all:
I am hoping someone might have an insight into what might be wrong with my laptop. Dell's support being what it is, I have decided to bypass them as I have found forums to be a lot more helpful than their support people.
So, here's the gist: I pressed the power button on my M1210 this morning. For about 1.5 seconds it looked as if the laptop was booting up. Then I noticed a few small things: 1) no sound (except for a feeble humming as if the HD was trying to engage); 2) the CAPS lock and the Scroll lock lights are flashing in unison; 3) the screen remains dark; and 4) after about 30 secs the computer just turns right back off.
I have brought the power cord in a Staples and had a tech guy there actually plug my power cord into one of their Dell laptop display models and it is working. The laptop doesn't even turn on when the battery is out and the the computer is plugged in.
Does anyone have any knowledge of previous occurences such as this? Or perhaps ideas as to what the problem could be? Before I even start thinking about paying to have this thing examined and possibly repaired, I'd like and idea of the nature of the problem.
Hope someone can help!
Thanks!

Yep that happened to my E1705,
First one,if not both RAM sticks are bad,and the MOBO and is bad along with the video chip on it.
On mine all were bad along with my CPU.

So is my laptop basically ready for the scrap heap or is there anything that can be done to fix it? I'd hate to get rid of it after only 2.25 years!

No i would not say that,i think the 1210 is far better then the XPS 1330.If you want to replace the motherboard the system will be fine for probably another 3 years, barring hard drive or memory problems. You are going to have to decide what you want to do,repair it,or get another system. If it was me,i would repair it,that system is not ready to be scrapped by no means.
But like i said in previous post, when my system had this problem, dell had to replace everything>MOBO>Memory>CPU>and GPU.But she is running awesome and flawless since then.Mine was covered under warranty so i guess you could say, it is easy for me to say fix it?...

http://en.community.dell.com/blogs/direct2dell/archive/2008/08/18/nvidia-gpu-update-dell-to-offer-warranty-enhancement-to-all-affected-customers-worldwide.aspx? try this..
Though m1210 is not listed.. 87 minutes of argument with xps tech support resulted in a favorable outcome.
They are sending a box to me. My warranty ended on march 10th.
