XPS M1330 Bluetooth not working

Purchased new machine and had problems on day one. Reloaaded from scratch. Bluetooth does not work. (I don't know if it ever did).

I have downloaded and installed the latest software - I get the Bluetooth icon lit up on the back of the keyboard and have it activated in the BIOS.

Did clean install of Vista and then loaded the latest Bluetooth software. Nothing happens.

I have now bought a USB Bluetooth dongle and loaded a copy of Soleil blutooth software and it works fine with the dongle.

Just inconvenient having to use the dongle all the time.

Are there any known issues that could enable me to resolve the problem (please don't suggest I call Dell).

Did you go from xp to vista or vista to clean install of vista?...If you did either of the 2 you need to download the patch for BT for this.

I did a quick search on Dell and located the BT Patch.

Will try it when I get home this evening.

Many Thanks

I downloaded the only bt Patch I could find (R159805.exe).
Uncompressed it and ran it - Nothing - slight screen movement as if it was trying to open a DOS box. But nothing happened. Also tried it in Safe Mode. No good.

Uninstalled all Bluetooth software I could find. Rebooted and tried above again - no difference.

Removed all software and Bluetooth module and rebooted.
Powered down  - Re-connected Bluetooth module.
Blue LED lit on Keyboard - did new hardware search - nothing.

Installed software from Drivers Disk for Bluetooth and rebooted - nothing changed.

Control Panel/System shows Blutooth software without and device software installed. (No Drivers)

All switched on in BIOS and Hardware switch at R/H side of keyboard.

Anybody got any ideas please - before I have to take a day off work to get advice from Dell. The last time I phoned DELL - I came away speaking with an Indian accent - and was shunted via 13 different Operators - only to find they had cancelled my computer GGGrrrrr

Is it listed in device manager as Bluetooth Radios with two entries under it?

The entry just shows Bluetooth.
The 2 radio entries are not there - in fact nothing there at all.

The Bluetooth software I purchased makes the entries but it does not work with the internal Dell Bluetooth.

In fact - when I attempt to load the Dell Bluetooth software supplied on disk with the computer - it errors and tells me it only runs on a Vista OS. I have to go into the uncompressed program and find an entry that runs the program. I have tried the 32 and 64 Versions - load ok - but again do not install.

Before you do anymore re-installs try the followining:

1.Go to Device Manger and click the "+" sign next to Bluetooth
2.Open up "Dell TrueMobile 355 Bluetooth + EDR
3.Select the "Power Management" tab
4.Uncheck the box "Allow this computer to turn off this decvice to save power"
5. Exit out of Device Manger
6. Double click the Bluetooth icon in the systray
7. Go to "Options Tab" - check both boxes under "Connections"
8. Check the "show Bluetooth icon in notification area"
9. Click "OK"

If you can do all the above..then setup the Bluetooth devcies you want to connect to your 1330. Most devices walk you through the setup process (i.e. pairing, setting up COM Ports etc.)...if not call Dell Tech support.

Thanks for staying with me: I have commented on your suggestions below:-

Before you do anymore re-installs try the followining:

1.Go to Device Manger and click the "+" sign next to Bluetooth
The only Bluetooth symbol is calleed "Bluetooth Radios" (Its empty) with a sub category - Bluetooth Printer.
There is no + only a -   with yellowed out Bluetooth Printer option.
2.Open up "Dell TrueMobile 355 Bluetooth + EDR How Please
Can't go any further because the options above do not exist

I uninstalled the Bluetooth Printer option and there is NO Bluetooth now listed at all in Device Properties.

O.K.....here's my last suggestion, if it doesn't work you'll have to make the dreaded call to Dell and have them walk you through a new OS install
  • Open Device Manager
  • Click the "Action" tab at the top
  • Select "Scan for Hardware changes"
    • You may have to click "action" two or three times before you see the above option
  • Device Manager screen will refresh and hopefully you will be able to follow the instructions I sent previously

Good Luck!!!

Thank you -

I deleted the Bluetooth Printer device - Took out and then reconnected the Bluetooth Module and rebooted.

Voila - It works. Needs some tweaking - so I have the puzzle, just need to work out the picture.

I really did appreciate your help - without it - I would have given up.

True Thanks
