XPS M1330 Sleep Mode???

I have been racking my brain trying to figure this out.... When I close my lid or even hit the sleep button, it is suppose to go into sleep mode and you are suppose to be able to hit the power and wake it up. Well you hit the power button nothing happens. I have read the Manuel which is very vague! So I'm asking for XPS M1330 owners to help me out. I have had it for a whole week and have had to call XPS tech services 3 times for different issues. One tech told me it was a Vista issue! I love the design and hope to love the laptop as well. My wife gives me grief about buying this computer cause she just got a Mac book and out of the box have had no problems at all. So I'm hoping to prove her wrong.

Have you contacted XPS support about it? Just curious what they told you. I can easily believe it might be a vista problem, but my friend just bought a Sony viao with vista home premium and his laptop works just like its suppose to.

Thanks

Well maybe you can't win over your wife everytime. This is one of the time you gonna lose over hers macbook.
Dell is VERY slow with there software update. So you maybe have to live with it until they resolve this issue.

There is a solution to this.
1) Change the energi setting for the screen when the lid closes.
2) Hit the power button ones for hibernation and close the lid. "WARNING: If you close the lid to fast and the computer isn't in hibernation mode yet. You will have a full running computer in your bag (it will burn up eventully so call the fire department in case) or on the café table".

Your right she will win this one for sure! The sad thing is I paid more for mine!!

I did figure out were the problem is after a couple hundred hours it seems like and 3 techs later, Its in the Trend Micro PC-cillin software, I did just about everything I knew of and just thought about turning the software off and boom works like its suppose to! So this problem isn't a vista problem!! Know the question is how to fix the software to work right!

Thanks

Trend Micro PC-cillin software? Don't know what that is. I haven't found that program in my windows. I still have the same problem. When i switch with Fn+F1. I didn't when to hibernation mode instead it turned the computer totally off. But I'm glad that you resolved it.

It is the antivirus software that came with my laptop from dell. I finally got it to work right, not sure how but I did. I turned off my antivirus completely, then went to my power options under control panel, kept the recommended dell settings. When i close lid it sleeps and when i push the pwr or sleep button it sleeps. I shut the lid and it went into a normal sleep mode, opened it and it came on. I then restarted and once it was fully up i turned the antivirus back on and checked for updates. It has been working so far. So try doing something like that with your antivirus software. Good Luck

Thanks

The problem with the sleep mode is due to the Trend Micro antivirus software.  After much much much time spent with this issue (and with the help of Michael, the best tech support guy Dell has) I was able to solve the problem and my m1330 runs (and sleeps) like a charm.

Trend Micro's software tries to install a firewall on your network connection -- something that isn't necessary to your security as your router and Windows do a fine job with that.  Furthermore Vista is incompatible with this network firewall (as it's incompatible with almost everything -- another issue for another day).  Otherwise the antivirus software is pretty good.  What was happening with my machine was that it was never going to sleep -- if I booted up and put it to sleep, everything was fine.  But if I accessed the internet at any point and then tried to put it to sleep, it would go into that loop.  The only way out would be to shut down by holding down the power button and then rebooting.  Frustrating, right?

Solution:

Start --> Control Panel --> Network and Internet --> from the list on the left hand side select Manage Network Connections

This will show Local Area Connection, Wireless Network Connection, Bluetooth, and perhaps some others.  Right click on the connection you usually use (for me, Wireless Network Connection) and select Properties.

This will bring up a box that has a list entitled "This connection uses the following".  On that list you will see Trend Micro Common Firewall Driver -- uncheck that one.  Do the same for the Local Area Connection and any other connections that you may have.

Voila -- that's all there is to it.  Now when you go to sleep your computron will actually go to sleep and therefore be able to come out of it as was intended.

Now the only problem I have is that in trying to solve this issue I did a full system restore -- I reinstalled the OS and everything that came with it.  Unfortunately I lost all of those wonderful Project Red backgrounds I got with the machine and can't find them anywhere.  If anyone could help me out with this (i.e.. perhaps e-mail me the aforementioned backgrounds) I would greatly appreciate it.

In either case I hope this helps.  This appears to be a pretty common problem and obviously others have tried numerous things that worked.  Let me know if this helps.

Cheers.

Try this link out:

I think its only for product red systems, so I wasn't able to test it.

Good luck and thank you for the post on fixing this sleep/trendmicro issue!

This isn't specific to Dell, but here is a link to product red wallpapers in general.  I'll keep looking for you. :)
