Is it perhaps an issue of adjusting the sentitivity? In addition to installing the driver, there might also be an accompanying software program that runs in the systray that allows you to adjust the amount of pressure required to detect pad touches. I know I've always adjusted mine in the past to be a bit less sensitive because I find myself frequently grazing the the pad accidentally with another finger or my palm. The decreased sensitivity causes the computer to ignore some of those grazes, but still work fine when I actually intend to move/click.

disord3r,

Thanks for you help.

I have adjusted the sensitivity. I played around with touch pad systray icon. The cursor does not move at all. Once in a while after moving finger on touch pad for a minute or so it may move ever so slightly other than that no movement. Thanks again.

I think I may have found out what was causing the problem. I  took apart the laptop (I used to be a field service technician many years ago) and discovered that the touch pad cable was not all seated correctly. I reseated the cable but the laptop would not boot with the cable connected. I re-examined the cable and found that the contacts on the cable were damaged. So I need to know does a replacement palm rest assembly come with a cable, if not can I just purchase cable separately to resolve the issue.
