Hi Wayne,

Exact same problem - round port end in a laptop unit that has an angular (octagonal) port. The fit isn't secure and keeps falling out. Dell, so far, haven't been helpful. They keep advising me that my warranty has expired, but this shouldn't be an issue as it's not a repair for a damage, but a fault on Dell's part. Anyway, I hope the problem has been solved for you.

Take care

I've got a Inspiron1545 - so the data of the powersupply might be different to your adapter!

Important: 65Watt(90Watt will do too...just more powerful) and most important:19.5Volt!!

I took 2 pictures of the label and the plug itself-have a look at it- it might give the technical support

some clue what to order for your system.

Hey, thanks for the reply, i had somewhat forgot this post still existed!

The pictures you posted are for the PA21, which is something i did stumble across on my journey, the only problem is it's only available in 65W, whereas the M1530 needs 90W power to run effectively.

The result i found was basically the charger I needed just doesn't exist - and Dell's technical support simply reiterated this to me - they had no solution. In the end they said it was the motherboard itself, which they changed - but to absolutely no improvement.

With this problem, combined with no workable sound drivers for windows seven, i just had enough of what was otherwise a great laptop. In the end i took the option of trading the unit in for a different model (at my own cost in terms of depreciation). It cost a little bit more, but i am far happier with my new model, and the power cable stays attached!

The reality was, as far as i'm concerned it was a manufacturing issue - putting a port on a machine then not providing a suitable power supply. As i say, a real shame given that the machine itself was otherwise fantastic.

I hope you have / or are having a better time reaching a solution than me.... Best of Luck!

Cheers.
