XPS M1710

I have just purchased the above with 2GB ram
It has XP Pro SP2 32bit.
I want to upgrade to 4GB.
Are there any issues I need to be aware of before I do so?
Will the 32bit os recognize the 4GB?
Any help appreciated.
Regards

i cannot answer your OS question but your motherboard does support a max of 4gb ram. refer to your manual to be certain you purchase the correct type ram...

The answer to the other part is no, 32-bit Windows won't use all 4 G of RAM. You'll see something over 3G total useable RAM.

Your system can have up to 4 GBs of memory on the motherboard. You'll need to install the sticks of memory in a dual-channel configuration.  So if your computer is currently using 4 sticks of 512 MB, you'll need to buy 4 sticks of 1 GB in order to have 4 GB of memory. If your system came with 2 sticks of 1 GB, then you'll only need to buy 2 more sticks of 1 GB to get 4. 32-bit operating systems will see less than 4 GB but more than 3. 64-bit operating systems are capable of having more than 4 GB. 64-bit vista is capable of 128 TB of memory.

Umm....the M1710 only has two (2) RAM slots. It's not possible to buy four 1GB sticks as you're recommending. The OP will have to buy two 2GB PC5300 667mhz RAM sticks to get 4GB of RAM. As an fyi, I have 4GB's in my M1710, and only 3.25GB is recognized by XP Media Center edition. My system used to only recognize 3GB, but then I upgraded my BIOS, and then it recognized 3.25GB.

I upgraded from 2 gigs to 4 gigs (3.25) made a big difference in how alot of my games played and apps ran. I highly suggest the upgrade if you can afford it :)
