The system should take any Core 2 mobile CPU. It will not support any of the Core i CPUs.

Hi, Thanks for the quick response...
Looking at the web and seraching for Core 2 mobile cpu im finding cpu's with socket p or 775... help...
i didnt know there was 2 types...
what would fit the xps m1730?
Ive just found this

All of the Q processors are desktop CPUs -- that's Socket 775.
The mobile Core 2 CPUs begin with T or P - they are socket 479 (aka Socket P in the guise used in your 1730).
