XPS m1330 Motherboard Question
Hi,
I have XPS m1330 with Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS video chipset (CX062 motherboard).
The video chipset was dead (I think this is the heat issue). I am looking to replace the motherboard. I search around and I know that there are 2 kinds of motherboard for this laptop model:
CX062: Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS video chipset
CX061: Intel Video chipset
Can I use CX061 to repleace my CX062 motherboard?
Thanks,
xbacala

Yes, but note that Dell extended the warranty by one year on these, so if it's the video chip, you're covered:

If you DO use the Intel board, boot in Safe Mode after changing the mainboard, and uninstall all the nVidia drivers BEFORE booting into Windows fully to load the Intel drivers.

Thanks for your answer.
The thing is my laptop was more than 1 year old and out of warranty.
So as you said, I can buy CX061 Intel video chipset to replace my current CX062 nVidia video chip set.
But, I look at the picture of the CX061, it seems that the heat sink is different with CX062. Can I use the heat sink of CX062 for CX061 board?
Thanks,

xbacala,
My M1330 ran out of warranty in october 2008 and my GPU finally gave up the ghost on Sunday (31/05/2009). I phoned Dell re the problem and they are coming to fix it today. As long as your laptop is less than two years old and the problem is definitely with the GPU then the extended warranty will cover this problem. To check it is definitely GPU, press "D" and switch on your laptop. If the LCD is ok then it should cycle some full screen solid colour backgrounds (white, red, blue, green, etc) and then boot up as normal. If you see these colours but then the screen goes blank when booting up then it is likely to be the GPU.

That's good to know. Thanks for your information.
I think my laptop is less than 2 years old. I'll call Dell today to check.
Thanks again !
