XPS m1330 keeps locking up

Hi everyone,

I just bought an XPS m1330, 2 gigs of ram, intel core 2 duo 1.66 ghz, not sure on the graphics card, I assume it is integrated.  I bought it from Best Buy, so I don't know all the exact specs.

In the one day that I've had it, it has been freezing often.  Most often when it comes out of hibernation, but a few times it has locked up when I do something like try to open the power configuration screen.  I notice that every time it locks up, when I reboot it the desktop icons go back to their original size and locations (I changed it from medium to classic view and re-sorted them).  Also when it locks up, the mouse will still be moveable for a minute, but can't click on anything, and it makes a loud beep when it freezes all the way.

Has anyone had a problem like this?  I've tried searching for a solution, but so far I haven't found anything.  Thanks for the help!

PC-cillin, their software caused my machine to lock up all the time. If you visit there support pages you will see a link to either install a patch or install the newer version of their software. I woudln't be suprised if you were having the same problem.

if pc-cillin is the problem i suggest try avir antivir... its free and haven't let me down yet. you can get it here: www.free-av.com

if you have paid for pc-cillin then u r better of getting the patch. however i find pc-cillin, norton and mcaffee to be powerhog. avira is light on resources and with vista every single byte of ram counts

Had the exact same issue. When I purchased mine from Best Buy, (same config. as yours) they recomended webroot anti virus. I got home, downloaded and everytime the pc came out of standy the mouse would move a few seconds then the pc would lock up. Hold to hold the start button down and reboot. I confirmed this be uninstalling and reinstalling several time with the exact same results. I installed kaspersky and have not had a single issue and its been about a week. Funny thing was when this started (brand new m1330) 2 hrs old, I called Dell and they will not support a laptop via bestbuy. They have a special contract with BestBuy that requires carry in service only. NO PHONE SUPPORT ??? If I hadn't got such a good deal on the closeout white model $695.00 it would have gone back.

Anyway, its probably a third party software issue in your case s well. Good luck

Hey, thanks for the help guys.  Installing the patch didn't help, so I tried un-installing it, and that hasn't helped either as of yet.  This has been very frustrating.
