XPS15 Win8 Clean install - please help!
Hi,
I'm new here and this is probably not the right place for my problem, but I really need some help...
From the beginning:
I got my XPS15 (32gb ssd + 1tb hdd) right before christmas and had been happy with it. I even managed to get Intel Rapid Storage running, since it did not work from the beginning for whatever reason.
My hdd made funny sounds soon after, so last week happened what needed to happen - the hdd crashed.
No problem, dell in person of a service technician replaced the hdd and installed a clean win 8 (not the original dell package, just a plain one). This did not support Intel Rapid Storage, probably because bios was set to AHCI. I found out later, when the technician had left. Not any driver seemed to work.
So I decided to recover my old win 8 with my self made set of recovery dvds. But this did not work, win 8 just did not want to start after recovery.
I now try to install win 8 from the dvd the service guy brought, but at the beginning it asks me to provide the correct driver. I put the F6-driver for sata from intel onto a usb-stick, but setup does not accept that. I cannot proceed with installation...
Now it is weekend again (of course), so no hotline support until monday. I need my computer...
Can anyone give me any advice please?

Did you extract the SATA driver? See Windows Reinstallation Guide Upgrading to Windows 8 Step 6:

Thanks Philip Yip,
that's a really helpful piece of documentation you created there! It did not help me with my special kind of problem, but gave me enough hints to get my system back up and running. I will keep it for further reference. The 'special' behavior of windows 8 is still somewhat annoying.
One of the problems was, that I could not load the driver, when I plugged the usb stick in the system AFTER it started setup (even though I could browse the stick, it did not accept the driver itself). But upon rebooting with the stick in and then running setup again, it recognized the driver properly.
Whatever...
Everything else then was easy.
I appreciate your help, it did restore my trust in dell.
Greetings
Ralph
