Your PC ran into problem and needs to restart.

Hey everyone

I am currently experiancing a problem with my Inspiron 15Z, i shutdown my laptop and when i tried to turn it back on i get a blue screen saying Your PC ran into problem and needs to restart. and it restarts laptop and it just goes on a endless loop, i recently found out that on windows 8 that the F8 no longers works to get  into safe mode, so currently i am running a Epsa Pre Boot System assessment. if this does not resolve this issues would the next step be doing a whole system restore to the PC ?? if you how would i get a Win 8 Copy and have all the files back  can any one please assist me with this issues. Thank you

Hi Ramster72,

Welcome to the Dell Community Forum.

In many cases a computer will not attempt to hand off control to the operating system. Microsoft has developed comprehensive repair and recovery troubleshooting in the event that your computer cannot start Windows correctly, but does start the Windows boot process. Please click on this link http://dell.to/1fGNalC which has steps to Repair your computer. Please complete the same and revert us with your findings.

Hi Ramster,

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and ask the questions a lot of people wouldn't.

  • What were you doing right before this boot problem started? Did you install a driver? did you perform any major disk organization functions like setting a new partition or defragmenting manually? Any information about the final moments Windows was functioning normally will be useful.
  • Are all USB, eSATA, HDMI, Express Cards and MMC cards ejected or uninstalled?
  • Do you have any further details about the error ie: and error code or indication of a stack dump?
  • Did you create a rescue disk using Dell Backup and Recovery as recommended by the software that shipped pre-installed with your Windows 8 machine?
  • What is the model of your Dell Windows 8 Laptop 15z (xxxxx) (model number not model line.
  • Have you contacted Dell Tech Support to discuss the problem and explore in / out - warranty solutions?
