Use Dell Command | Update to install Dell Thunderbolt™ Dock (TB15) drivers for Latitude E5570 / 7275 / 7370 / Precision 3510 / 5510 / XPS 15-9550 / XPS 13-9350 & XPS 12-9250

Dell provides the Dell Command | Update Application on a business client supported platforms to simplify the BIOS, firmware & driver update experience. This application is located under the "Systems Management" section of the Dell Support website (www.dell.com/support). Be sure to pick your system type from the list or enter your service tag to ensure you get the right version for your system.

  • Install the Dell Command | Update v2.2.0 available for the system in the "Systems Management" section to obtain the latest firmware and drivers.

NOTE: The application allows users to download and install the latest firmware and drivers on their systems, including

  1. System BIOS
  2. Intel Thunderbolt Controller Driver

Other than above automatic installation, it’s recommended that users download and install the Dell Dock Firmware Update utility (expected to be available to download by August 2016) and Intel HD Graphics Driver manually.

Dell Thunderbolt™ Dock (TB15) Installation Guide for Latitude E5570 / Precision 3510

The latest BIOS, drivers and Firmware can be downloaded at the Dell Support website (www.dell.com/support). Dell highly recommends installing the following BIOS / Drivers step by step in the prescribed order to ensure optimal performance. Failure to install BIOS, drivers and Firmware in this document may result in undesirable performance.

  1. Connect the AC adapter to the Dell Thunderbolt™ Dock (TB15) and then connect the Thunderbolt™ 3 (Type-C) connector to the computer.
  2. Search your system model name under Select a Product selection or enter the service tag of your system to locate Drivers & downloads page on the Dell Support website (www.dell.com/support). Change the OS to view all available updates for your system.
  3. Flash the latest Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) available for the system. This is posted in the "BIOS" section.

  3. Then follow the recommended steps of connecting the AC adapter to the TB15 dock first and then attaching the Thunderbolt cable to the computer.
  4. Power on the computer with the docking station connected.

With my XPS 13 9350 everything works just fine with the lid closed...as long as I have the thing sitting on top of an external fan. Maybe I just got lucky. And it'll probably all break the next time I look at it wrong.

I see there's a new Thunderbolt firmware available (NVM16 2.12.07).
I no longer have my TB15 but intend to re-buy it if/when all the problems are fixed.

Has anybody tried the new firmware yet? Is the unit stable(r) now?

Do you have a link to the update? The support page still has Intel_TBT3_FW_UPDATE_NVM15_A02_02.11.06.exe on the page.

Look under "Chipset".
They probably forgot to update it under "Docks/Stands".

I installed the new firmware. The dock stays listed in the Thunderbolt software now, but it didn't fix any issues for me.

For those of you seeing instability using the TB15, last weekend I rotated the unit so it's sitting on it's right side. This has done two things:

  • Allow me to move the unit a little further away from the laptop, since TB cable is on the left side of the docking station and laptop.
  • It's reduced the temperature a ton.

Last week, I pretty much had daily failures where the USB mouse/keyboard would just die because the driver would crash. I even had a couple of BSOD which appeared to be due to the drivers bombing.

Since setting the unit on it's side, I haven't had it happen this week at all.

There's definitely a heat issue with these units. This docking station either needed active cooling or better passive cooling. There's definitely not enough circulation.

NOTE: I did move all my USB peripherals to a powered USB 3 hub last weekend too. So, maybe if the peripherals aren't drawing power, that may have factored into things as well.


The only side effect of having the unit on its side is it's a little harder to press the button on the top, because you've go to hold the bottom of the unit. I've just taken to putting my thumb on the bottom of the unit when I press the button.

Dell really needs to fix the heating issue though.

I found it under my laptop driver chipset, not under the dock.  I ran it and it failed twice and wasn't able to get it installed.

I see that I have an unknown version for the "Networking driver", not sure if it could be related to my network issues?

I have a 7710 that I hooked the TB15 up to 2 days ago.  I have three DVI monitors connected to DP, mDP, and HDMI.  I am using cable converters to connect to the DVI (DP to DVI, mDP to DVI, and HDMI to DVI).

I also have a USB wireless keyboard and mouse as well as the network cable connected.

Today, the network connection dropped out.  In Device Manager the Realtek USB Gbe Family Controller was not listed.  The monitors and keyboard were still working.

I rebooted and the Realtek was there.

I checked and all the correct drivers are listed.

Also, this is with a clean install of Win 10 and not Dell's image.  Boot Device is a Samsung 950 Pro PCIe and bios is set to AHCI.

Is anyone able to run 4k @ 60Hz in either the mDP or regular DisplayPort connection?

I don't have a DisplayPort input on my monitor so I'm trying to use a mDP -> HDMI 2.0 active adapter but can only get 30Hz. Running at 60Hz results in all kinds of video artifacts and audio popping.

I imagine anyone running 4k isn't using an adapter/dongle like this but with a good quality DisplayPort cable plugged directly to the dock, I would assume stable video.. just need confirmation so I know what I should be returning.

ps-the latest TB firmware update made no difference for me (Intel_TBT3_FW_UPDATE_NVM16_A03_02.12.07.exe)

Following these steps, with these drivers, the dock still fails regularly.  The screen connected to the HDMI will go out and I have to disconnect it and switch to using the laptop directly.

I am a VERY unhappy customer.

I have mDP to DP (mDP on dock) cable hooked to Dell UP3216Q 4K 32" monitor with no issues - listed as 60Hz and no playback issues, dropouts etc. (second batch of TB15 docks received about 3 weeks ago).
