Use Dell Command | Update to install Dell Thunderbolt™ Dock (TB15) drivers for Latitude E5570 / 7275 / 7370 / Precision 3510 / 5510 / XPS 15-9550 / XPS 13-9350 & XPS 12-9250

Dell provides the Dell Command | Update Application on a business client supported platforms to simplify the BIOS, firmware & driver update experience. This application is located under the "Systems Management" section of the Dell Support website (www.dell.com/support). Be sure to pick your system type from the list or enter your service tag to ensure you get the right version for your system.

  • Install the Dell Command | Update v2.2.0 available for the system in the "Systems Management" section to obtain the latest firmware and drivers.

NOTE: The application allows users to download and install the latest firmware and drivers on their systems, including

  1. System BIOS
  2. Intel Thunderbolt Controller Driver

  5. Realtek USB GBE Ethernet Controller Driver

Other than above automatic installation, it’s recommended that users download and install the Dell Dock Firmware Update utility (expected to be available to download by August 2016) and Intel HD Graphics Driver manually.

Dell Thunderbolt™ Dock (TB15) Installation Guide for Latitude E5570 / Precision 3510

The latest BIOS, drivers and Firmware can be downloaded at the Dell Support website (www.dell.com/support). Dell highly recommends installing the following BIOS / Drivers step by step in the prescribed order to ensure optimal performance. Failure to install BIOS, drivers and Firmware in this document may result in undesirable performance.

  1. Connect the AC adapter to the Dell Thunderbolt™ Dock (TB15) and then connect the Thunderbolt™ 3 (Type-C) connector to the computer.
  2. Search your system model name under Select a Product selection or enter the service tag of your system to locate Drivers & downloads page on the Dell Support website (www.dell.com/support). Change the OS to view all available updates for your system.

  3. Then follow the recommended steps of connecting the AC adapter to the TB15 dock first and then attaching the Thunderbolt cable to the computer.
  4. Power on the computer with the docking station connected.

I am using all ports.  I have DP to DVI, mDP to DVI, and HDMI to DVI.

Most the time I see the dell logo on two of the three screens on boot (sometimes it does not show) and then the windows login on one screen.

This is with screen closed.  I pull the 7710 out of my bag, plug in power, and then plug in the TB cable and machine turns on automatically (upon plugging in TB cable).

The 7710 has the Intel HD Graphics P530 and the Nvida Quadro M5000M.

Only changes to the bios is booting with AHCI and not RAID (using a Samsung NVMe 950 Pro) and also have the post on auto (not min or thorough).

Also dock will not work while laptop lid is closed (we run dual monitors). 

Still same here. I'm losing my patience.  We have 2 TB 15's and 1 XPS 13 9350 and 1 XPS 15 9550.  I was testing with the XPS 13 yesterday. I was able to boot up with the lid closed with a single monitor attached and worked on it for about 15 minutes before the screen blinked and came back on, a few minutes later it blacked out and never came back.

My XPS 15 with the TB15 is rock solid with 3 screens all day long, but only if my lid is open.  So frustrating.

CAN SOMEONE FROM DELL PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS ISSUE???

I sure am glad I read this forum before purchasing a TB15. I really don't have the time to try to debug this stuff; however, I would like someone to clarify one thing for me. The Dell shopping page lists multiple different docks:

  1. Dell Wireless Dock (452-BBUX)
  2. WD15 with 130W adapter
  3. WD15 with 180W adapter

  5. TB15 with 240W adapter

Do all of these devices suffer from the same problem, or is there one that works? I wouldn't suspect the adapters have an affect on the problems described, but just thought I'd ask.

For the last couple of days, I have been losing my TB15 Network Connection while the USB mouse and keyboard still work.  It is happening on two different TB15 (same machine).  I assume it is a driver issue.

Machine is a Precision 7710.

I wanted to check and see if you have received your refund from Dell yet?  I've returned my dock until they get everything sorted since it was unusable after weeks of troubleshooting but haven't received a refund yet (over 30 days ago).  Support is telling me it has been processed but how long should it take to see it back in my bank account (debit card used)?

I just installed the latest firmware (XPS 15 9950 -> Chipset -> March 24th) and now instead of connecting/disconnecting loop when I plug in the dock, it's no longer recognized at all.

On top of that, the usb-c port doesn't work at all after trying to connect the dock until I reboot. I am using a usb-c to hdmi adapter for my second monitor, and I thought the firmware fried my port because I could no longer get my second screen to be recognized, but it came up after a reboot.

Think I narrowed down the BSOD problems with my TB15 to the Realtek GbE Ethernet driver thanks to other posts here. No BSOD since I uninstalled it (but of course also no Ethernet Connectivity through the Dock :-( ).

Annoying fan noise problem still makes it impossible to use the dock in an office setting.

If it's been over 30 days and they haven't posted a refund to your card yet, it's time to dispute the charges on the card.  The email says up to 30 days.  If on day 31 I don't have my refund yet, there will be one email sent to support with a 24 hour deadline to get it resolved.  If it isn't, then I'm disputing the charge on my card and they'll have to deal with Capital One.

With the utter trainwreck this thing has been, they do not get any wiggle room on getting the refund to me.

 I found the same thing with "rtux64w10.sys". I returned my dock due to a number of issues. It is interesting that the latest driver that Realtek has for this chip (RTL8153) is v10.5 but Dell released v10.6. I don't know where they got it.

  I also had an issue with the Realtek USB Audio software installed for the dock. I had to uninstall that.

I uninstalled 10.6 from dell and installed the 10.5 version from the Realtek Website and had no BSOD for more than a day now, while the Ethernet is working.

No experience with the audio drivers, don't use much audio on my device.

I just had another loss of the TB15 Network with my 7710 running Win 10, but USB mouse and keyboard still works.

I went into bios and under "System Configuration / USB/Thunderbolt Configuration," I changed it from "Security Level - User Authorization" to "Security Level - No Security".

I will see if it makes a difference.  One thing I noticed is when windows first boots up, the TB Network Connection connected right away.  Previously it took around 10 seconds from when I saw the Windows Sign-in Screen for the TB network connection to connect.

The only way I got the Dock almost 100% functional is by disabling the C state in the processor in BIOS.

Without that my Precision 5510 would lock up with all black screens  every 1-3 hours, sometimes even less.

Changing Thunderbolt security in BIOS made not difference to me. It would still lock up.

I still use my USB keyboard if plugged into the dock every ~15-20 min, so I keep it plugged in to the laptop directly for now. Other than that everything seems stable:

Precision 5510 with Xeon CPU

Devices plugged in right now:

2 Display port monitors at 1080p

Ethernet

Wireless Logitech mouse

Charging with thunderbolt, no other power source

I just got the new XPS 15 with the dock, and of course, I am experiencing similar problems.  I have run through the step by step guide and installed all the latest drivers. 

However, when I try to install the actual dock firmware, it gets to the end and then says "power cycle error."  Is anyone else getting this error?  Is there anyway to verify if the new firmware is installed (and perhaps it just didn't restart on it's own)?  

Is this new firmware crucial to getting stability, or is it more to do with the drivers?

I've decided to return my 19 TB-15 units. Finally got to a supervisor who understands somewhat and is going to process the return. What a terrible launch for this device.

You need to unplug the dock from the laptop when you do the fw update. it updates the controller inside your laptop, not the actual TB dock. I know, it's confusing.

If you still have issues like I did, try disabling C state for your CPU in the BIOS(F2 before boot).
