beep code

I woke up this morning to a series of loud beeps coming from my Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series with an i5 processor. I've been using this nice machine for a year now and I haven't had these types of issues before. I only know that the it was between 4 and 7 beeps, because I didn't know that the beeps had any significance, so I just held onto the power button (I thought my computer was off the whole night) and it stopped. By the way, I left my screen up for the night because I thought it would go to sleep. Anyways, what should I do now, or how do I make the beeps repeat so I can verify the number of beeps? I know there is some beep code now after looking around a little bit. I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with a virus because I reset my computer recently to factory conditions because I have been using windows defender for the past year and I'm pretty sure it didn't pick up on a lot of stuff.

Hi totestoto,

Thank you for reaching out to us here, as per the description you have provided if the system (Inspiron 7537) is making beep sounds in the sequence of 4 it could be a memory failure, if it beeps in the sequence of 7 it could be a processor failure which may happen very rarely. You could try reseating the memory if you hear the beeps in the sequence of 4 again. Please follow the instructions from the link below to reseat the memory. You could also try to check if the beep comes back again by shutting down the system and disconnecting the ac power adapter and the battery and hold the power button down for a minute and then connect the battery and the adapter back to the system and power on the system to check if you hear the beep sounds again. Hope this helps, please feel free to reach out to us in case if you have any other queries and we will be glad to assist you.

Hi Mohan, thanks for the information. I will try to do the steps soon as it requires a little work to get the battery out of this computer. I'm just curious, what will it mean if I do the steps and hold the power button for 15 seconds and nothing happens? I would like to recreate the beeps again so I will count for sure and know what the problem really is. The last time I used my laptop before the beeping occurred was 10 hours and I was pretty sure my computer was asleep... so I have no idea how this could have happened.

Hi totestoto,

You're welcome, the reason why we asked you to hold the power button down is to release all the static energy from the computer which could have been one of the reasons why your computer might have produced those beeps. Please feel free to reach out to us if in case you have any other queries and we will be glad to assist you.
