big problems with e4300

Hi can anyone help me with my girlfriends e4300 latitude

It was bought from a company who were upgrading laptops so we got it wiped with software reinstalled and all ready to use, but didnt get any discs.

It worked perfect for a year then one day, the screen turned 90 degrees, I learned how to press control-alt-up to put the screen back to normal. But then 30 seconds later it would spin 90 degrees, then turn upside down. Some times it spins up to 30 times. When it does stop spinning the sliding finger pad works the wrong way round. If I slide my finger up, the arrow will go right. It opens up the calender and time and starts moving through the dates on its own.

I tried I system restore from the start menu, and also from press f8 in the start up. Either way it wont work, it says the system restore has failed, I have tried all available restore points and nothing works.

After the last failed system restore, now when I type, random letters appear or for example I press the letter "n" and it does alt +8, really random things.

Can anyone tell me how to reset the computer to standard but without using discs as we dont have them, and without system restore points as they dont work.

Please bear in mind now the keyboard doesnt work, and the mouse pad does random things, so it can take up to 5 mins to select something from the start key.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Steve,

Welcome to the Community. If you have wiped out the recovery partition, then I am afraid you have lost the ability to restore back to factory settings. The only option now is to manually reinstall windows and you will need the discs for it. Try giving PC restore a shot if you have not wiped out the recovery partition using the below link.

If you are in the US you can request for an OS disc using the below link. There could be a nominal charge for it.

I also recommend you reseat your keyboard and touchpad cables.

support.dell.com/.../keyboard.htm

support.dell.com/.../palmrest.htm ( Do not remove the entire palmrest, remove the keyboard to find the Touchpad Cable )

Thank you.
