You do not need dsrfix to do anything. How did you format the hard drive? All you need to do is boot with the XP CD and follow the install instructions step by step. It will offer to format the hard drive for installation.

It is best to 'wipe' a drive not just reformat as XP stores information in the format partition of all drives. If you have a wipe utility that also deletes the format partition you can start %100 new without any lingering issues or conflicts on install like this.

If you have the drive manufactures format utility on disk already you can use that to format and wipe the drive restoring it to its original factory setting. I typically use the utilities from seagate.
