c400 won't boot after installing extreme graphics
formatted and loaded xp on my latitude c400 many times, pro and home. Each time I could have any pcmcia device plugged in or not, external cd or not, and start up perfect, but as soon as I install the graphics driver the computer will not boot unless I have a card in the slot. I get to the welcome screen and then it just powers off. Will start in safe mode or start perfectly with card in slot. Tried different drivers. Now i suspect irq trouble. Installed vista and worked perfect, but no key, and took half my 20 gig. It's a 1.2ghz, 512 ram. I have 2 of these the same and the other works great. I consider myself expert but I have gurus. They gave up. Stopped all startup and services besides microsoft in msconfig. No difference. Bios is password protected, but I installed and ran the one on Dells download page through Windows, still same. Help

Had slightly similar problem. As best as MY LIMITED MEMORY serves me..
VERIFY WITH DELL SUPPORT FIRST
Did you check BIOS for boot order. Make sure that it's supposed to look for windows and all drivers in correct order.
Did you load extreme graphics from a flash drive. Maybe the program thinks that's where it's supposed to look.
Check that User Control is OFF prior to install and that JAVA is enabled.
Ensure all points of computer are empty. FLASH / PMCIA / USB. (May want to do it wirelessly)
download zip file to deskktop
uninstall driver completely.
Run downloaded file from desktop.
Ensure that SETUP WIZARD puts correct path for drivers.

Thank You for you responce, deskpilot. Since I have installed xp dozen times I have tried most everything. Have installed wireless, have done it from flash drive, but copied file to hard drive first. Can't change bios, locked by password, but all settings exactly the same as the other one I have that works. User control off, java enabled. Everything in, and everything out. Sorry to take so long to get back, was trying your suggestions.
Here's something new though, installed win 2000, works great, but won't let me put my Office 2007 on win 2000. I'm still trying.

CAUTION!! - Win2000 is only BACKWARDS compatable for previous issues of stuff, not forward.
You've got a few generations difference between Win2000 and OFFICE 2007. Unlikely to work, but...
Good Luck.
