One question about the lock itself... does the cable allow itself to be wrapped around an object and fastened back to the lock so the laptop cannot be walked of with?? It looks like it just secures the lid an HDD...
The product description states it can be used as a "conventional lock",so yes it should be able to wrap around itself or an object.
Also, logically speaking, it would make no sense to simply keep people from opening the lid or taking the HD, when they could simply walk out with the whole system.

The following lock should work.
Both the C800 and C840 use the same system chassis.
Dell Latitude C800 and Inspiron 8000 Anti Theft Notebook Lock.
