another member had the same problem & his fix was what John suggested.
you'll need to view the full file name so you'll have to uncheck hide extensions for known file type in folder options>view.
rename the file with an extension like txt then retry deletion.
you may have to do the renaming in safe mode if the file is still reported as being in use.
ok i tried it in regular and in safe mode at it would not let me rename it bc it says somthing is using it. i am trying to delete both a28 and a26 installers. neither of them installed nor should be being used. to rename them i am jsut right clicking then selecting rename, is there some other way i should do this?
did you try to change extension (from .exe to .txt) or just rename file?
Admin rights might help, personally im allways logged on as admin, som I cannot verify
yeah, i try changing it to .txt but it still wont let me. and i tried logging in as the admin in safe mode, but it still wont let me do anything to it either.
If you are using XP I can tell you exactly how to delete these files. I had the same problem and sat at my computer until i figured it out.
Click Start --> Run
Type: msconfig
Click the boot.ini tab then put a check in the /safeboot box
to be able to delete these files you must choose "MINIMAL(ALTERNATESHELL)"
this will bring up a command prompt on boot before loading anything else allowing you to delete the files using dos commands.
NOTE: To make your computer return to normal boot after you must use the hotkeys Ctrl-Alt-Delete to get to task manager. When in task manager click File --> New Task. Then Type in msconfig and reset the boot.ini options to their previous setting.

Also "Spybot Search & Destroy" has a feature in the Tools section which shreds any file.
Using this program will allow you to delete these files much faster.
