cant scan for wireless network

hi, i purchased my dell 5423 about a year ago and i have always been able to connect to wifi, but a few days ago my computer stopped scanning for wireless networks, i have tried troubleshooting but unable to find a solution. i have go to 'turn wireless device on or off' under network - devices, it says "we couldnt find a wireless device on this pc", i have tried redownloading the driver from dell support website but installation is always unsucessful. Anyone can help with this.

daniel1994,

Download Dell Wireless 1703 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth Driver and save it to your desktop.

Make a system restore point.

Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, device manager, network adapters, right click on Dell Wireless 1703 802.11b|g|n (2.4GHz), left click uninstall. Tell it to remove the software and drivers.

Restart your computer. When you login, the new hardware wizard will try to install the adapter but fail. Install the drivers saved to your desktop.

I got the same problem. Windows Update patch KB2993651 is making problems. Roll back your system to before this patch was installed and you will be back to normal.

daniel1994,

Install the drivers saved to your desktop.

Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, control panel, network and sharing center. Manage wireless networks. Remove the problem network, then try to connect.

Start, all programs, accessories, right click on command prompt, left click run as administrator. Type

netsh winsock reset catalog

This will reset the winsock catalog
