Hello,

I would suggest that you both download and install the latest retail drivers for your cards from here.

Another with the driver error.

It's not that we don't want to download the drivers from the ATI website. In fact it would be my first choice, IF the ati website does not redirect us back to the laptop manufacturer website. I tried searching for the drivers on there, and well, if it's there, I can't find it.

AMD Customer Care for ATI products does not provide direct technical support for laptops/notebooks at this current time (telephone or email). If you require direct technical support please contact the system manufacturer of your laptop/notebook.

If you are having problems finding the drivers for your card, please click on the following link: http://www.ati.com/drivers

If the drivers won’t install then we recommend that you:

  • Use the driver supplied with your notebook computer, or,
  • Obtain a driver update from the manufacturer of your notebook computer.

For your convenience, a list of links to notebook manufacturers is available in the ATI Onboard section of our website.

Support for a specific driver feature (such as hardware acceleration of OpenGL) may be incorporated into a particular display driver (or not) at the discretion of the notebook manufacturer. If you have any questions regarding the features or functionality of a particular display driver, please consult with your notebook manufacturer.

AMD does not recommend using 3rd party drivers.

The link below is for information purposes only.

Hello again,

Is THIS the download from ATI/AMD that you are trying to use? If so, I see that it is listed as BETA, and might now work 100% until it is updated. I suggest that you check back to see if/when it is updated.

After doing some research on Google, it seems many others have the same issue with CCC and no one as yet has a fix. Sorry :emotion-52:

Hi techno65.

I have the same problem on my Studio XPS 435MT, with the ATI 4800 series 512mb graphics card. This was after an update from the Catalyst Control Center window.

The drivers were updated but now the Catalyst Control Center will not open. Each time I switch on the computer I get the same error message as you.

My operating system is also Windows Vista 64 bit Premium.

As far as I can find out there does not appear to be an official sollution at present.

Hello again,

Look at THIS PAGE half way down.

You will see a download for just the Catalyst Control Center for Win7 64bit dated November of this year. The drivers listed on the page may not match your present card, but the Control Center download may well solve your issue. Install this at your own risk.

I have a Studio 1737 with Windows 7 64-bit, and a Mobility HD3650 video card.

I had the same problems after I initially updated my video card drivers with the retail drivers (I was getting the MOM error, and I couldn't open CCC ) .

The problem is that AMD's retail ATI Radeon HD drivers (which are designed for the desktop video cards) are incompatible with the Dell Radeon Mobility HD drivers (including the CCC software) . After I completely uninstalled all ATI software, and reinstalled the video card drivers from the Dell web site, the MOM errors went away, and I was able to access CCC once again.

This occurred under Vista 64, before I upgraded to Win 7 64.

I had the same problem updating the TV Tuner card drivers from another vendor. In many cases, the hardware you receive with your Dell laptop is not identical to the retail hardware with the same name, and therefore the hardware requires the Dell proprietary drivers.

Hello again techno65  and any one else that may be interested.

I said in my last post that I was having a similar problem to yours. I have now found a solution with the help of david316 at the following site http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=279&threadid=101834.

I followed his advise with one or two exceptions.

The first was I did not need to stop "MOM.exe" and "CCC.exe" as these were not running.

The second was I did not reinstall the Package in one, I first reinstalled the drivers then after that I reinstalled CCC.

The problem appears to be that the ATI update does not completely remove the old CCC program.

I have subsequentialy spoken to Dell Support and they said the action I took was what they would have told me to do.

Regards, Hope this helps.

This helped me. I reinstalled only the CCC and now it works.

Thanks.

Dear TECHY4,

I'm experiencing the same problems with my daughters Studio 1555 and am trying to solve this issue for a long while. When I read your post of 2009 I was very delighted that a solution is available, but unfortunately the link is not available anymore.

Further help is very much appreciated. Luc (Netherlands)

Hi Luc70,
As you say that link is now broken and I cannot remember all that I did,
but as I said the main problem seems to be that the update does not completely
remove the old drivers.
Here is AMD’s advice for more recent problems of a similar nature:-

1. Use AMD uninstall utility, remove all
2. Restart computer in safe mode, run driver sweep or equivalent ( I used Revo Uninstaller ).
3. Restart computer with internet plugged out
4. Disable any anti Virus or firewall
5. Run drivers
6. Restart again.
Hope this helps,
TECHY4.
