d800 backpack

Anyone know of a nice backpack notebook case that will work with the d800?  I need something to carry my D800 to class along with any coursework and papers.  Also maybe some compartments for storage.  Thanks

Dave

A few years ago, I bought a backpack from http://www.spireusa.com that fits my D800 and all the accessories perfectly. It is very functional, sturdy and does not immediately look like a laptop bag (important when travelling). At the time, it was available under the model name " Zoom XL", but I just checked the website and the current model by that name looks different. I guess, Spire revises their models every so often. You might want to give them a call and check whether the current backpack fits the D800, or whether they will take it back if you later find out that it does not fit.

Check out the backpack and messenger bags made by Booq (http://www.booqbags.com, some of the best looking and designed notebook bags I've come across.  Lots of customizable colors (just picked up a black/orange BP3 backpack and managed to lug my D800 around E3 without ending up in traction ;-). Highly recommended.

I was originally planning to get a Spire Volt XL, but was told by sales that their sleeve for the D800/8500 wouln't be available until this fall.  Luckily, I came across the Booq site after reading some Powerbook 17 owners raving about their backpack.  The Booq BP3 and and Folee bags are one of the few bags that fit the rather odd D800 dimensions well, snugly without sticking out out of the padded construction.

Hi, I'm using the red Hedgren Extreme Profile Collection. See www.hedgren.com. Quite heavy to wear, but the D800 fits perfectly in one of the compartments.

I've got a Targus Sport Deluxe Computer Backpack and love it.  My new D800 fits in it fine with all of my accessories.  It seems I can pack the bag full of tons of stuff and it doesn't get any bigger. :)

I am in the UK and got one made by Techair (http://www.techair.co.uk/content/latest.html).

I got the Mara Blu - the best one they do - the measurements seem to suggest it doesn't take teh D800 but I took a chance and it fits fine.  Has lots of pockets for bits too.

In UK I have seen this for sale at PC World, dabs.com, Insight UK - I got mine from PC World and paid £60 (GBP).

Bioniccow:
Do you have the D800 with WUXGA screen?
The D800 WUXGA is 36.1x27.6x3.9 cm, while the targus sport deluxe backpack is 35 x 30 x 5 cm.

Since I'm looking for a good backpack for the D800 I'm going to buy I just want to make sure it fits.

I brought my computer into best buy and tried both the deluxe and standard sport targus backpack....I didnt like the deluxe...it was way to big...the standard sport, which is cheaper, fits perfect in the notebook slot.

Re: d800 - Fitting in a slip case of 13.5" x 2.5" x 12.5" ???

Hi, All!

Can any of you who already own Latitude D800 Wide 15.4 tell me whether the D800 fits a Padded slip case for most standard 15 inch screens up to 13 x 2 x 11 inches?  I have ordered my D800 yesterday, and waiting for Targus T-Lite Deluxe Backpack http://www.targus.com/product_details.asp?sku=TBP600 delivered from the targus.com.

A cool thing for the backpack is a removable padded slip case for storage of standard 15 inch screen notebooks. So that you can use the slip case when you carry your laptop with your briefcase or messenger bag.

I originally bought a Targus Sport Deluxe Computer Backpack
http://www.targus.com/product_details.asp?sku=tsb315 for my Sony VAIO 15 inch.  In fact, the backpack was too big for 15’ and did not hold the 15’ VAIO since it was designed to cover up to 16”.

Unfortunately, I could not tolerate the noise of the Sony VAIO desktop CPU and returned it.  Now, while still waiting for the cool backpack, I am a bit anxious if the new backpack will be useless as Faldaani posts D800’s spec of 36.1x27.6x3.9.  Obviously 36.1 cm means 14.2 inches.  Does any of you ever own the T-Lite Deluxe backpack and D800? Though the length of D800 is over 1 inch longer than the slip case (13 inch), I hope the case might fit for the 15.4 WUXGA as there is leeway in depth (2 vs 1. inch).

Let me know if you have any idea.

BTW, I ordered Saturday afternoon June 7, and my expected ship date is Wednesday, June 25, 2003.

I wanted a backpack for my laptop that: didn't require me to buy something else in which to wrap the laptop to protect it (and kept it off the ground when I set the backpack down), had room for more than just the laptop (be it books, external drives, media or all of the above), had padding enough that I wouldn't strain my back walking around with everything, while at the same time providing not just protection from shock, but also from the elements. Many of the packs listed in this forum had several of the above-mentioned features, but I did not find one which adequately provided for all of them; every pack seemed to have a short-coming in at least one area. In the midst of my preparations for hari-kari, I found myself in an outdoors store, staring at the solution to all my problems:

http://www.danadesign.com/packs/street/emeraldcity.asp

The emerald city (referring to Seattle) is large (some 2k in^3,) relatively light (under 2.5#,) made of heavy nylon (not to mention it's manufactured by one of the top outdoors backpack companies, as opposed to targus, or any of the others who are comparably new to the market,) has a well-designed system of pockets (including such amenities as a *removable* key holder, as well as not one, but two padded pockets for things like cd players, digicams or pdas, in addition to the padded sleeve for the laptop) and what seemed to me to be the biggest no-brainer for a backpack whose intended occupants were laptops: fabric covering the zipper, thus decreasing the likelihood of water, should one be wearing this pack when it started raining, might make its way through the teeth of the zipper and onto my very expensive computer (you wouldn't believe how often this attribute was over-looked by other manufacturers.)

While I'll admit the pack isn't inexpensive as compared to some p.o.s. $40 Jansport, might I remind the forum denziens that they just forked over some $2,000.00-plus for the computer they're putting inside their pack? To me, the $100.00 Dana Design wanted for this was a pittance for the levels of functionality and protection their backpack provided me. Hope this helped.

This reply is probably too late, but yes I do have a D800 with a WUXGA.  I remember looking at the measurements and seeing that the bag was bigger the the laptop...but maybe not....but it fits fine for me.
