dell n5040 cpu upgrade

Does anyone know if you can upgrade this laptop to an i5 or higher cpu.

The compatibility sites say the n5040 can only take up to i3 however the HM57 chipset it has is compatible up to i7. 

Is there some other reason it wouldn't be compatible? the i5 cpus seem quite similar in most features

Hi,

Yes, You're right HM57 is compatible with i5 and i7 processors., We only recommend the processors that we have tested and shipped with this model.

If you're comfortable replacing the part, you may go ahead, however it would void the warranty should something go wrong after the CPU upgrade.
