Since you have mentioned that the external screen is working fine, but the LCD screen has the pink lines in it, you can run the LCD BIST to test to check the LCD screen. Please follow the steps below.
Turn the computer off >restart the computer
At the Dell logo screen, start tapping the F12 key a few times until you see the ‘One Time Boot Menu’ appear.
At the one time boot menu press the down arrow key to highlight ‘Diagnostic’, then press Enter to begin the PSA diagnostics.
You will soon see different colors on the screen; at this point please press ‘N’ which will begin the LCD BIST Test. This test will help us to identify, if there is any issues with the LCD.
The screen will display multiple flashing colors. If you observe any blurry video, distortion and or any lines on your screen, it would mean that the LCD screen may be faulty and needs a replacement.
doing that now thank you so much for the quick response.. also the touchpad has stopped working . im gonna go to dell and update or reinstall drivers incase its that but if not do you think it would be loose wire or just totally broke .. thanks again
ok done after pressing enter on diagnostics it does some tests then comes up with 0142 error code 2000-0142 status 79 then says something about harddrive ? but ?
Please let us know whether you have tried running the LCD BIST test which I have mentioned in the previous post, in case the LCD BIST test is not done properly then the test will do the regular hardware diagnostics. So please run the LCD BIST test and let me know the progress.
it didnt give me option soon as i clicked enter after diagnostic it started doing a test then found the above error but it didnt say nothing about bist test.. how do i get that
The error code 0142 which indicates that the hard drive is faulty, in case the system has important files or folders in the system please back up all the data. During the LCD BIST test please check whether the pink lines appearing on the right hand side of the screen. We are not looking whether the LCD test is passing or failing, we are checking the pink lines is appearing during the test. In the test the pink lines are appearing which indicates that the LCD screen is faulty. There are no pink lines during the test then the video card may be faulty or it’s an operating system issue.
Am having a similar issue with Vostro 1510: Lots of horizontal lines on screen. i connected the external VGA port to a monitor and it works fine. according to what i understood from other users on this forum, it is the screen which need replacement. Right?

I cannot find anyone to advice me, not even the seller. Hope i can find a solution here.
hi ...i have similar problem with my dell inspiron n5010.....i performed diagnostics at startup by connecting with my external monitor nd it showed me like lcd connection fail with error code 2000-0322..and lcd BIST test is done where i can see the diff colors....however i cannot enter the setup or even i cannot see the logo at startup in my laptop....do i need to replace my lcd screen...

hi sorry went to do it again and it says vide card - pass lcd lcd connect -pass , lcd inverter test - not applicable , lcd graphics - pass
