docking station "hardlock" problems

I have a new Dell D800 laptop running WinXP Pro.  "Undock" and "Standby" functions in WinXP worked fine until I installed some software which apparently modified or changed some system files. Now, there is no standby function whatsoever in the WinXP shutdown menu, and whenever I attempt to undock the laptop, I receive an error message that says, "You cannot ejecto your computer because the service 'hardlock', which controls one of the devices in the docking station, does not support Plug and Play and cannot be stopped. Contact the manufacturer of the drive for an update."

Does anyone know where/how to update the hardlock service or drivers to restore the undock function?

Have you installed the Dell Notebook System Software? The current version is 3.6.0.
Also, how loud are the fans in the D/Dock? Do they shut off during standby/hibernate?

Thanks for your help.  After several frustrating days, I finally discovered a text file buried in the subdirectory of the program that I had installed which caused the problem in the first place. It explained how to issue a command from a DOS shell that would remove the hardlock.  It apparently worked.

seawolf1956 - how loud are your D/Dock fans as compared to your notebook's fans?

Do they run all the time or only during periods of high activity?

Do they run when the system is in Standby or Hibernate?

Thx, appreciate a quick reply, and Merry Christmas.
