e6400 and 64 bit Windows 7

I'm trying out Windows 7 64-bit on one of our e6400s. First problem is it only recognizes 4 Gb of RAM while the machine has two 4 Gb sticks in it. Second issue is that the Intel chipset drivers that Dell provides for the Laptop and WIndows 7 won't install. Get a "Does not meet the minimum requirements" error then closes. The system shows a number of components that are not installed properly and they all appear to be motherboard parts that I can't get drivers for. Any ideas? I thought it might be a BIOS setting for the memory, but I cant seem to find a way to get into the BIOS (no DEL on startup).

I have simular issues with e6500 and Win7 with the intel drivers. I only have 4G so I cant speak to that one. On the DELL e6500 if you hit the f12 on boot it gives you an option to go into the BIOS

I managed to get the VISTA 64 drivers to install and took care of all but one device; the cell card 5600 bla bla bla

I have not been able to get the video card to run in resolutions that are required for Triple Head 2 go (Matrox) and at this point have little hope.--

i had a similar problem with my Latitude e6400 but it was before i downloaded windows 7 32bit. At the time my OS was running Vista 32bit and the computer was only recognizing 1GB of RAM and the second 1GB stick of RAM was undetected. I ran several memory tests and each came back positive which left me with minimal options/solutions. What i ultimately had to do was call Dell techsupport to have my motherboard replaced  as i discovered the RAM slots were not functioning correctly.  This might be what is causing issues for you as well as you mentioned multiple significant errors already on your motherboard. As for the drivers which won't install, you have probably been trying to install the drivers for Win7 64bit which has a minimum RAM requirement for certain drivers and since your motherboard is only recognizing half of your RAM the computer sees that as not meeting the minimum requirements for the install.

HOPE THIS HELPS!!
