If your system includes both a touchpad and a pointing stick (eraserhead), try wiggling the latter next time that happens. Maybe dust or something gets in there and induces an offset in the position control?

I keep mine disabled in the mouse control panel, and haven't had that problem since.

Thanks GM, I do have a touchpad and a pointing stick. I don't use the pointing stick....I can't find how to disable it. Can you tell me how to disable the pointing stick.

Thanks, Jesse

See if there are (pointing stick and touchpad) Device Settings and More Features tabs available in the Mouse Properties menu via the Control Panel. There may also be access to the settings through an icon in the System Tray, if the Synaptics driver is installed and a Tray Icon is selected in the More Features tab.

Let us know what you find.
