error code 3600:0649 invalid AC Adapter

Question

Posted a question earlier but didn't put the error code as the title,just wondering if someone from Dell could clarify something for me, I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 which had a 6 cell battery and a 65w charger,if i run the Dell diagnostics with the old battery in it says battery requires changing and the adapter is ticked ok...I upgraded to a 9 cell battery advertised as an upgrade for longer use on battery power,but if I run the diagnostics with this new 9 cell battery in it says battery is ok but charger not recognized and it doesnt put on the charging light on the laptop,I've been advised that the 65w charger i was using isnt powerfull enough for the new battery hence the error code and the no charging issue, does this seem correct to one of you knowledgeable people ?? dont know where to find out what the error code means and dont want to purchase a 90w charger if this isnt the problem..thanks for your time...Ian.

Try a local computer shop - most will have an adapter you can try.  If that doesn't solve the problem, you're in for a replacement mainboard.

thanks for that,will take it into town tomorrow and see if i can try a more powerful charger,if its a main board job I dont reckon it'll be worth changing it,laptops nearly 7 years old but hasn't given any bother at all,I was just wondering if maybe this old laptop wont take a 9 cell battery, if need be I'll try another 6 cell battery as everything works fine with the old one in,just ive had the old battery for over 3 years and it wont hold a charge now. thanks again..Ian
