geforce go 7900 gs driver issues

I just recently purchased an Inspiron 1705 with a geforce go 7900 GS video card.  Upon receipt of the system, I reformatted and reinstalled windows.  Much to my dismay, the cd Dell sent with the system did not contain all the drivers I needed to complete the install.  I found a driver that is claimed to have been obtained from Dell (Forceware 84.29  http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1379), but it's a beta and doesn't work the way it should.  I can't play any of the games that I purchased this computer to play (i.e. Doom 3, Half Life 2, Tron 2.0, etc).  I haven't tried any other graphic intensive programs yet (Adobe Premiere and Photoshop), but it's not looking promising.  I've tried every setting of hardware acceleration, updated all Direct X components and have found through my troubleshooting that anything that requires Direct X or Direct Draw capability to run makes the screen blank out, show weird patterns on the screen and locks the system.  After reading Nvidia's website, I found a bit of very discouraging information:

Q: Does NVIDIA support notebooks with UDA (downloadable drivers)?
Yes, NVIDIA has always been able to support notebooks with the unified driver on nvidia.com/nzone.com, but our Tier 1 OEM partners have always required that we direct customers to their Web sites and disable support for their notebooks in our unified driver. However, NVIDIA does support OEMs/SBs who request that their notebooks be enabled in our unified driver. For example, most of our launch partners are enabled on our Web unified drivers (Sager, Falcon NW, Voodoo PC, ProStar, and others).

Tech support has only been able to direct me to a link for a driver meant for the Geforce Go 7800 GS, which is incompatible with the 7900.  I'm at a loss here.  I find it hard to believe that a company as reputtable as Dell would push out a high end product line with little more than a buggy beta driver to support it.  Does anyone know where I can find a certified driver that won't lock my system?  Does anyone know if there is any way to reactivate support for the unified drivers that has been disabled by Dell?  I really like this computer, but if I can't find a suitable resolution to this problem, I'm going to have to send it back as it's useless to me otherwise.
