graphics slowdown while gaming

I bought my inspiron600m just about a month ago...
everything works great when I try playing any game over 10 minutes.

I experience a slowdown and major overheat on the hardrive ( hand "burns")

after about 3-7 minutes, plays normally, then goes back to slow in about 2 minutes...

I tried solving this by buying a cooling pad...  Similiar results like before only i could play a few minutes longer.  still slows. :smileymad:

anyone have any suggestions? (preferabbly without buying)

I've noticed this happens to Toshiba's Laptops a lot. My friend has one with a 2.4Ghz Intel processor. When ever I use his lap top it gets very hot, especially during heavy gaming like you. My friend later bought a Laptop cooler which is probably the same thing you have. It's basically a pad with 2 80mm fans that pulls away the heat. I'm not sure which processor your computer has, but this manages to cool his laptop very well to the point where it is barely warm to the touch. It allowed me to play a game for hours without any trouble.

I believe the company that made the pad's name was LapCool.

What processor does your laptop have to make it so hot?

what's up andrew655,

that really wierd, it shouln't happen with a pentium m. you could download Centrino Hardware Control (address is in my signature) and check the temperatures of your hard drive and processor. you can also safely lower the voltages to reduce heat dissapation. after checking the temperatures, you can figure out where the problem is. then you could contact dell or figure out another solution. good luck and post back with an update!

laptops are very hard to keep cool, also I remeber pentiums will clock down to keep cool, so thats where your laptop starts slowing down

You can also check the tep of your processor by going into the BIOS by pressing DEL upon start up. The BIOS is also where you can overclock your processor so it goes faster. But also consider that it may not be your processor at all. The graphics card in the 600m is not the best and playing games the rely heavily on the graphics card may overload and heat up. This heat then transfers to the rest of your computer heating up your processor causing it to slow down.

......I am still wondering whether or not dell will come up with a new update or something to fix this.

Anyone know?

hi again,

pentium m's shud not heat up because they are meant to run cooler than the regular pentium processors. they shud never heat up to the point of threshold slowdown under normal use. maybe the GPU is getting overheated, and the core has to slow down to keep the temp in check. maybe the fans or cooling in some way is amlfunctioning. what kinds of games u playing? some new games can really heat up the GPU. hope this helps. good luck and post back soon.

hello,

i really dont know whyur GPU core slowdown. i still think the cooling is messed up. maybe u shud call dell and ask them if that is regular in ur model of computer. maybe thats just regular because ur GPU is not too good. good luck. :-)

By the messages Ive read this laptop was poorly designed.... I thought this would be good enough for my usage.

Didnt pay (price edit) for this heater.

Do you think dell will make an update involving the bios or something that will fix it?

Ps. would like to talk to dell but they wont even file a report!
can anyone do that or start some kind of angry thread that will get dells attention to make them do something to the 600ms (maybe a recall?) \
