help!!!!

hey! I have an Inspiron 5150 that I bought in august! A couple of weeks ago I began having a problem with what was assumed to be spyware, so i was told to download ad-aware and to also re-install windows XP on my computer. At first this worked fine, but then i began having problems with my internet browser where when i scroll down..it staggers and moves very slow. To add to this fact, when i try to play video or audio, it does not work. I have trouble with customer service on the phone, and i was hoping that this forum would help. Also, a message will come up occasionally that says my computer will shut down in 60 seconds. Any help is appreciated!

thanks

Go to a AV maker site and search for a removal tool.

You need a virus removal tool.  It is possible that virus software like norton antivirus or mcaffee will take care of the particular bug you have, but they may require a special virus removal tool.

You can go to www.trendmicro.com and run an online virus check, that is going to require that the virus allows your computer to stay on long enough to do the check.

I recently had this problem with a desktop machine... I took the hard drive out and put it in another computer as a secondary drive in order to run the virus removal programs, b/c the virus would not let me install anything, nor stay online long enough to get any fixes.

You should be able to get rid of it by formatting the drive and re-installing windows, but you will also need to figure out how you are getting it, or you will just end up in the same place you are now.

If you go here http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html you can find links with more info on the virus plus a tool to get rid of it and instructions on the use of this tool. I used it on a realtive's PC and it did the job.

As a general rule there is only 1 way to keep nasty stuff like this off your PC: Keep the MS critical updates up to date, install a good antivirus software (like Norton) and keep that up to date and install a firewall like Zonealarm. All 3 need to be in and up to date. If you have a broadband router this may well act as a firewall but you still need the other 2 things.

Also, when posting on forums it is better to use a subject heading that gives readers an idea of what is in the thread. Admittedly "help!!!" get's a few curious people like me to look but is not really ideal. Also I think that the video forum may not be quite the ideal one in this case but I can see where you are coming from. This is all supposed to be a help and not a dig a you - welcome to the forums - we hope you like them and stick around.
