Exactly, I bought my I6000d with the standard wxga display because I know I don't want to go higher than 1280X800.  Learned this lesson through the Latitude C series, we got high res panels that looked very blury @ 1024X768 (the res that most folks wanted to use).  We've since been purchasing high end laptops with the 1024X768 panels, which look crisp and clear @ this resolution . . .

Leave the resolution at the native resolution if you want a sharp display.  Laptop monitors are made to only look great at one resolution.  I suggestyou put it back at the high resolution then put the DPI to large if all the icons and text are too small.

argh... anyway... i've increased the dpi... looks bigger.

hmmm.. any ideas how to get some of the websites to fully utilize the increased resolution rather than it being looked small?

You can't adjust what you see on websites.  You'll have to get used to it especially since your comp has a widescreen display.
