i\386\ntkrnlmp.exe error code 7

i have a inspiron 6000 with pentium 1.86 ghz, 1 g of ram and 80 g hd. i was having many issues and lockups (blue screens) so wanted to do a clean install. went to reinstall windows xp pro. started process and then got the error file \i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not load error code 7. set the bios back to the default settings and changed the ram with sticks from another working 6000. tried one slot at a time. used kill disk to wipe hd and started all over again. still the same error. reset the cmos battery, took hd and dvd drives out and reinstalled. same error, file i386\ntkrlmp.exe could not load error code 7. so i tried another windows installation disk (xp home) and the same error. any other ideas
