inspiron 6000 memory

My system has two 256 mb memory sticks:  DDR2 SDRAM, PC2-5300, 667 mhz, CL=5, 1.8 V, unbuffered, non-ECC

Can I replace them with two 1 GB memory sticks from Crucial:  DDR2-800, SODIMM,  200 pin, PC2-6400, CL=6, 1.8 V, unbuffered, non-ECC?

or does different CL values (5 vs 6) and PC2-5300 vs PC2-6400 make the proposed upgrade memory non compatible for use on my INSPIRON 6000 PC?

I would really only suggest using the Memory Advisor Tool and getting the memory guaranteed to work on Crucial's web site.  Going from 512MB to 2GB is going to make the difference not the speed between PC2-5300 667 and PC2-6400 800.   You would not even notice that.

Hi there.

The memory will upgrade to 798MHz with Two GB of PC-2 800 MHz SO DIMM SUPER TALENT From Bass Computers.

I was reading as  I had tthe problem with both installed: The Inspiron 6000 would try to start then just shut down.

This is what I tried in order: Pulled the Battery out for this. I was running on the adapter. Here we go.

1. Pulled one of the 800MHZ sticks out and put in a 533MHz and 800MHz and it booted. It was running at 533MHz speed. I didnt like it but booted to XP windows.

2. I pulled the BIOS Battery. This resets Bios also.

I replaced it with a new one as it was 3 Volts. (Remember to pulll up gently on the center tag in the socket to make good contact before puttting in new battery in or old one.)

3. Rebooted with same 500 and 800 sticks in the 6000 and then setup the dates in the BIOS. Shut down and plled the power again.

4. Installed the other SuperTalent PC-2 800MHz stick in place of the 533 stick.
