is it normal to take forever to close a CD?

When I burn CD's (not very frequently these days) I have noticed that it takes forever to close them. It might take 5 seconds to burn the file to CD, and then 5-10 minutes to close the CD, while the drive sounds like it is constantly speeding up and slowing down. Is it just closing the tracks, or could there be something wrong?

This is an Inspiron 1720 with Win XP Pro, and the TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632H drive.
