try to use an external keyboard and see if the problems persists. If it does, than there's something wrong with your software/hardware.If it doesn't the keyboard on the laptop may be faulty. Also try to use the xp disk and get in to the recovery console.Check to see how it's working there.

Hi,

I think I cracked this tonight. The cause is PCMService, which is the Dell installation of Power Cinema.

I first booted in Safe Mode and checked the keyboard. The keyboard was fine so I knew it was a service or program that runs during a normal boot.

The way I checked was to go to www.mlin.net and install StartupCPL. This installs a function called Startup in Control Panel which enables you to see all the background services that are run at boot time. Find the tab which contains PCMService and un-check it. Reboot and try your keyboard.

You can also do the same thing by selecting Start, Run, and typing Msconfig. However it's not so user-friendly as startup.

ok...whew, it took some time but i went thru all the start up services and on my Inspiron 1501 I found out that if I disable ATI Hotkey Poller from the msconfig start up services, the keyboard lag is gone. There may be a patch somewhere to fix this, but I am just happy to have it working for now (2 hours after starting the process!!) Thanks to all who posted for the advice!

I have a desktop computer with external keyboard and wireless mouse.  I have the same problem with online comments in Yahoo.    These  words would end up being wrong and some words or characters  missing as I type and I don't type fast!  It has gotten worse with all the updates being added freely by Microsoft!  If I reload the complete software it will work just fine until all of the updates have been done and its back to loosing characters or words or complete sentences but only online with Yahoo comments on the news!  I do get a lot of lag with games which I think is the same problem with being  online!  I wish there was away to delete the registry and redo It but  there  is  so much  you cant touch in there. I cant even delete  Bing from it! The  Bing items are locked in and Its way above my capability to delete them! I just experienced the lag typing the last to sentences!  While typing I get a lot of extra character added to the words like "wo%=rds"
