l521x processor

i have previously posted about framerate issues with my l521x. can run battlefield at 60+ fps and then have it drop from between 15 to 45 fps. doesnt look like ill find a fix for it. and im thinking whether its worth replacing the processor. what i would like to know is if replacing the processor will be an easy task with the l521x or if it is going to be a massive pain? also if anyone could suggest another processor that would be suitable. thinking price range between 200 to 350. thanks.

Hi gricho27,

Dell has tested the following processors with XPS L521X :

  • Intel® Core™ i5 3320M
  • Intel® Core™ i7 3520M
  • Intel® Core™ i7 3612QM

You may also refer to this link which shows comparison between the above mentioned processors : http://intel.ly/VxGz1i

You can also upgrade to any of the i5 or i7 mobile processors available and the Intel® Core™ i7 3700 Mobile series would meet your budget and gaming requirements but these have not been tested by Dell and for gaming needs you may also consider upgrading the video card (In case of video card upgrade, you might need to change the motherboard as well). Please update the latest BIOS before upgrading the processor.

Processor upgrade involves the tear-down of a system; you may need to get in touch with a local technician to get help with the processor upgrade.

Note: Dell does not recommend processor or motherboard upgrades for purchase as discrete items in any given system. Therefore, after the processor upgrade, if you face any issue related to the processor, you may not get support from Dell. However, issues with the other components on your system will be supported in case your system is within the warranty.

Please reply for any further questions.
