liquid damage to keyboard

I've accidently spilled my breakfast drink (milk) onto my inspirion 8500 keybaord  :(

so the keys that got splashed went crazy...
letting it dry it still doesn't work..

I know It's my fault but please tell me am I looking to replace the whole keyboard module completely?   Is there any chance Dell would cover this under warranty?

I using a USB keyboard now.

Do you have complete care? If not, then sadly your answer is no.  I learned that lesson with a BIG cup of coffee. (extra surgar) Cost me $250 to clean the system, just to be told my MB has a small crack because of it. So the next laptop I bought has "Complete Care" coverage.  That laptop is still operating, but at a slower speed. And to top it off, the LCD has a splotch on the lower right quarter of the screen. Annoying, but it still works.

I don't know.  How do i find out if i have complete care or not? I didn't think so.

I also panicked and used a hair dryer to attempt to speed up the drying process.  Turn up deforming a couple of keys with the heat :(

Well I am pretty only the keyboard contact are messed up, everything else work 100% right now..

So i think i want a new keyboard installed anyway... any idea how much would that cost to be installed by DELL.

BTW learned my lesson to leave the laptop closed when you're not using it....

jcho,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Please update your Dell Community Forum user profile with the service tag of your system.  The repair would most likely not be covered under your system warranty.  The current rate for depot repair in the United States is $269, as of June 7, 2004.  You will have to contact the Dell facility in your geographic area for rates where you are.

You can get another keyboard by clicking here

Go to the reference tab above and DL the manual to replace the KB yourself.
