m1330 vs MacBook

So I just returned a MacBook for the m1330 but I'm having some doubts.

The hardware on the m1330 is by far superior - but most of it is stuff I won't really need.  HDMI?  For what?  Express54?  No need.  LED display?  Nice, but not really a deal breaker.

On the other hand - the MacBook has functions and softwar that can't be found on Windows.  Two-finger scroll?  Oh, how I miss it.  Full-screen zoom at the swipe of a finger?  Check.  (and no, DesktopZoom does not do the same, not even close)

Plus, I like the feel of OSX, even though it's a bit slower at just about everthing.  (although the speed difference is really negligible)

At any rate, I'm really praising the MacBook, I know, but only for the key features that I've listed.  My m1330 is well equipped and runs Vista smoothly, but oh boy, that two-finger scroll keeps calling me.  Not to mention the full-screen zoom, that's just plain genius and now that I don't have it, I can really appreciate the less strain on my eyes that I had with it.

Anyway, has anyone been between these two machines?  I'd like to know your thoughts.  Right now I'm sticking with the m1330 - but for some reason I don't think I'd miss it if I go for the MacBook.

I don't know what the point of this is, if you like the MacBook so much Return your 1330.

Why on earth would you take your MacBook back for an M1330?... The MacBook is a screeming fast machine.  Yeah, it may be a bit more expensive, but you get what you pay for, and OS X is LEAPS AND BOUNDS better than Vista...

HDMI? To connect to a HDTV very easily.
ExpressCard? To use any peripherals that support the standard. I.e. cards with more firewire/usb ports, soundcards, etc.
LED panel? Thin as can be (until OLED panels are out), better for the battery, more durable and longer lasting than CCFL panels.

As for functions and software not found on anything but Mac hardware...yeah, all that is made by Apple. You can find software alternatives for everything you want to do, plus more, on Windows. As for functions, the only thing you've talked about are features connected to the touchpad. Why are you going on about 2 finger scroll? The m1330 has *1* finger scroll. Just scroll along the edges where the arrows are. I've never needed a zoom feature before, so I won't comment on that.

I really don't see the comparison here. You're saying you want to go back to the Macbook because of a few accessibility features, as far as I can tell. Dell wins on hardware. Windows wins on software (not talking about the OS). Apple wins on...touchpad?

So if I decide to return the XPS - what's this 21-day return policy?  Do I get assessed a restocking fee?

Ouch!  My harddrive is too loud though, they promised it would be quieter.  =)

Yes, it is 15% of the purchase price.

Return the system - you're never going to be happy with it.

I have a MacBook Pro and a M1330 and they are not that different. The hardware is basically the same BUT the OS is different. If you love your macbook then get another one and return or resell your m1330. It seems you will not be happy with your m1330 no matter what so better to return, resell or whatever. Life's too short get what you want and be happy with what you have! :-)

You've already answered your question - you're not going to be happy with the M1330 in the long term.

I really like the iLife suite - especially how clean and professional looking the Keynote presentations looks.   As someone who does a lot of presenting, I think that alone would give the Mac the edge.

I'm not sure though, I don't think it's worth 15% of the price though - I mean, do I really need it that bad?

That's the question I'm asking myself.

LOL - dude, you're straight to the point.

Everytime I launch CS:S though, it makes me feel pretty good.  Not much of a gamer, but having that extra power under the hood is quite nice.

I'm just torn.  I hate it.

It's not even a MBP, I was considering the MacBook.

Anyway, do you see improved battery life running XP instead of Vista?

You're not torn. You're just stuck with the decision of buying a Macbook Pro for an already high price + 15% of a m1330, because you didn't plan very well. You're too worried about aesthetics, imo (though it doesn't surprise me because we're talking about an Apple product). The XPS will do everything you need it to do. Nobody's going to care whether you use iLife to present something, or use MS Office.

I don't know which hard drive you have, but I use the 7200RPM 160GB, and the thing's quiet. Obviously I have no Macbook here to compare it to, but if your HD is really not quiet, perhaps there's something wrong with it. Or perhaps it's Vista doing its disk thrashing thing. I've already switched back to XP.
