memory write/read error at ...

after start up i get message on black screen MEMORY WRITE/READ ERR0R AT 0FFF534, READ F710FF10 EXPECTING 00000000  DECREASING AVAILABLE MEMORY   STRIKE F1 TO CONTINUE, F2 TO RUN SETUP...... i hit f1 and eventually i get windows xp to start but i am bombarded with error messages, mainly ie error messages. also when my desktop comes up, i get a box in the center that says MessageApp  Dell Alert version 1.0  .... i have found that i can remove this by hitting esc. my computer is sooo slow and gunked up i can hardly get on the internet anymore. i have taken the dimms out and reseated them and that made no difference. i have tried everything i know how to do and am at my wits end. if it makes any difference or just coincidence, my major problems began when i tried to load a dvd into the computer to view. maybe this action triggered something? also, i decided to try and reload my os  software that came with my computer but i cannot find the OEM! now what do i do?! please help me! thanks, bob

Sounds like one of your dimms is bad (or dimm sockets).  Pick one and stick it in slot A and boot up. Hit F2 at the Dell splash screen and look at the BIOS screen.  It should show your dimm at full capacity - if not, it is bad.  Same thing then with second dimm after removing first one. If they both test ok then repeat the test in Dimm socket B. Reduced amount of memory will frequently cause everything to slow down to a crawl unless you have a massive amount in both dimms.

Reseating the memory could potentially fix the problem, but its quite likely to be a faulty DIMM or DIMM socket.
