mini DisplayPort ->VGA adapter on the XPS 15.6" laptop

Quite often I'll need to use my new XPS L501x laptop in presentations, and most projectors out there are still VGA-input models. So, I purchased a miniDisplayPort to VGA adapter, but it doesn't seem to work...

Actually it is very strange: the computer seems to "see" my monitor is connected (the properly recognized monitor model is listed in Device Manager). However, there is no signal at all at the monitor analog (D-Sub) input!

Could somebody shed some light on it, and how it could be resolved? Thanks,

Piotr

miniDisplay is digital

VGA is analog

therefore, a mere cable will NOT work

AFAIK, DisplayPort (not sure about mini DP) carries the analog signal, as well.

If it does, my miniDisplayPort -> DVI-I adapter should have it on output, too, and so the DVI-I -> VGA adapter should work.

The latter certainly does work between my dekstop nVidia card and the same monitor...
