mini9 bios update fails winphlash
found the a01 update on dell site, every time i try to run it failes with error 144. the program is packaged in such a way that i cannot keep it running after the failure so i can look up the error with the help. it flashes something by about bios not upgradeable or something then it shuts down. i tried to search in setup to see if like many motherboards there is a protection selection for the bios (to prevent nasty viruse from attacking the bios but if it is present I don't find it). anyone else having this issue?

I have had the exact same problem. This is why I came to the Dell Forum today, to look for a fix for this problem. This error shows up when doing both the A01 and A03 update. The main reason I want to do the update is to get the F11 and F12 function key availability that is included in A01 update.

To run any BIOS update from windows it is a good idea to turn off all of your startup items.
To do this Click on Start, Then Run. In the open command type msconfig and click OK.
This will launch the System Configuration Utility. On the General Tab Select Diagnostic Startup. This will stop all programs from running on boot.
Once the laptop is restarted you will have a clean (minimal) version of windows. At this point the BIOS update should run without any issues. The laptop will reboot once the BIOS update is finished.
When it restarts you will need to open the System Configuration utility again and select Normal Startup.
Hope this helps.
