my cursor is moving by its self-please help

Today my cursor started to move by its self. I have cleaned the pad, but that only slowed it down. Any ideas?

If you are referring to an optical mouse, and you are using the mouse pad provided by Dell, try using a different mouse pad, or going without one.

if you apply pressure to the right side of the palmrest, right next to the touchpad, does it make the mouse move quicker.  If it does then you need to have the palmrest replaced.  You can also try updating the touchpad driver to see if that cures it also.

My old 8600 started doing this. 1st Do yo have the (stick) pointer? The little button in the middle of the keyboard? If you do then go to control panel. Click on pointers and other hardware. Click on mouse.
Click on the devices tab and disable the (pointer stick). Maybe this will help.

I had that problem, my curser was jumping to a totally different line while I was typing and the sentence would be continued there.  I had to watch everything I did.  I downloaded a driver and the problem was eliminated.   Go to and download the driver and you problem with disappear.   Good luck
